How To Cancel Chase Debit Card On App

The new Chase Lock feature can help keep your credit card safe in case you lose it, or it's stolen. You can lock and unlock your Chase credit card in a matter of seconds, so there's no hastle.

Have you ever misplaced your credit card? If so, you aren't alone.

In the past, you had two choices for how to deal with the problem. You could wait and hope you find the card before someone makes a fraudulent purchase. This is risky because if someone else finds your card, you could end up having to deal with getting fraudulent purchases removed from your account.

On the other hand, you could report the card lost which normally results in your card company canceling your old account number and issuing a new one. While this is the safe way to go, it can be a major hassle. If you have set up automatic payments using the card number, you'll have to track down each automatic payment and update your information.

Thankfully, Chase has recently rolled out a new feature that makes it so you don't have to deal with this dilemma. In late September 2018, Chase announced a new credit card lock and unlock feature you can use either on Chase.com or using the Chase Mobile app.

What exactly is Chase's lock feature and how does it work?

Chase's lock and unlock feature currently works with all Chase's credit cards. Additionally, Chase mentioned that the feature will be rolled out to Chase debit cards later in 2018.

Lock your card but automatic payments still work

After you lock your card, no one will be able to make purchases, cash advances or balance transfers using your credit card account. However, any automatic payments or recurring charges you have scheduled will continue to work as normal.

This is good news because missing automatic payments can result in late fees and other charges. Fees and credits will also post to your account like normal. Chase will send you an email if anyone tries to make a purchase with the card while the account is locked.

You can lock and unlock your credit cards by logging into your account on Chase.com or using Chase's Mobile App. Locking and unlocking your account takes just a few seconds.

Locking your card on Chase.com

On Chase.com, select the credit card account you want to lock from the accounts home page. Next, click on the "Things you can do" drop down menu in the top right corner of your credit card account summary box.

Then, select "Lock & unlock your card". A new menu will pop up from the right side of your screen with a slider to lock and unlock your card. Simply click the slider to lock your card and click it again to unlock it.

Chase also lists frequently asked questions below the option to lock and unlock your card.

Locking your card on the Chase Mobile app

On the Chase Mobile app, simply press the ". . ." button under the card you want to lock or unlock. It will bring up a menu of options. Then, select "Lock & unlock your card". Click the slider to lock or unlock your card and you're done.

After you lock or unlock your card, you'll get an email verifying you've locked or unlocked your card.

Why you need Chase Lock if you have a Chase credit card

Chase's credit card locking feature can be super helpful to save you time and a headache. It allows you to essentially freeze your account in case you misplace your card but aren't sure if it is actually lost. This keeps potential criminals from being able to make charges while allowing you to search for the card. It also allows you to avoid unnecessarily closing your old account and getting a new account number which can be frustrating, especially if you have automatic payments set up through some vendors.

If you figure out the card fell out of your pocket and you find it in your couch cushions, simply unlock your card and continue using it.

Chase credit cards you should consider adding to your wallet

Chase's lock and unlock feature is available on all of their credit cards, including co-branded credit cards. If you feel like this would be a useful feature, here are a few of Chase's best credit cards you may want to consider adding to your wallet.
